Yesterday, we were introduced to a number of new terms:
- Value Message: the intended (and unintended) message sent to an audience through a piece of media
- conventions: the unwritten rules of a genre (remember, however, that these rules can be broken)
- Responses to media: dominant (hegemonic), negotiated, and oppositional
Before we get to tropes and texts, let’s give you a chance to respond to several pieces of media. For each one, I want you to respond from at least two stances (dominant, negotiated, and/or oppositional. The clips are from the Swan and an educational film from the 1950s.
