Please note: tonight, I need you to log-in to the LDCSB elearning environment and post a very quick response to the discussion thread you find there.

Today, we will watch a video from Learn360 called Digging for the Truth . The video focuses on Petra, an incredible archeological site in Jordan.  If you have watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you might recognize this structure.

Here is what I want you to do today. Please track your findings in your notes using a method you feel is appropriate; a graphic organizer/chart might work nicely.

  • Watch for references to the uncertainty of the research. Be ready to provide an example of when the host says “it is believed that.”
  • Watch for the reasoning the host and the archeologists must use to understand Petra. What are some of the conclusions they reach?
  • In particular, look for examples of the study of SPEAR: society, politics, economics, arms, and religion

If we have time, we will take a quick look at one of the great myths of the ancient world: the epic of Gilgamesh.
