Though I have no proof, I have always thought that the inspiration for Mitch Albom’s fifth person was Kim Phuc. Once known simply as the Girl in the Picture, Kim has become a tireless worker for the rights of children living through war, while at the same time spreading her message of forgiveness.

Today, we will watch  a video about Kim’s life. If you have finished the book, you will quickly see the many connections between Kim and the fifth person; if you haven’t, I would like you to keep Kim’s life in your thoughts as you finish the story.

The first five minutes of this video contain graphic images.

Period 2

Today, you will became satirists. You will poke fun at the ridiculous and the ill-conceived. Since this teacher’s overview is so effective, let’s start here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuvjDK3mpA0

Once we have a better understanding of satire, we will watch this clip; be prepared to tell me how it is satirical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L2fsubA2-c.

Finally, I want you to write a 200 word satire of something worth ridiculing. Sarcasm is encouraged.
