ENG 4U 2011: Your Presentations and a Few Questions

Since presentations start in a few days, I am willing to let you use this time to begin planning. The problem, of course, is that we don’t have access to labs today. This limits your ability to find appropriate topics and relevant information. Thus, I propose the following:

In the second half, I’d like to turn over the class to you. You will work together to investigate your options for your topics. I will explain this is greater detail at the appropriate time. I’d like to spend the first half of class discussing the future of this course. I’d like to know your responses to a few ideas I’ve been thinking of implementing. In short,  you are to be my guinea pigs (insert evil laugh here).  The ideas I’d like to discuss are:

  • the use of eReader apps to read course content and novels, and to keep track of notes. This includes the use of the OverDrive service, provided by the London Public Library and the Middlesex Public Library
  • using blogs as a method of regular publishing, allowing students to create an online presence that will interest post-secondary institutions
  • removing the first assignment (remember the introductions?) and using a section of the blog to practice/investigate communication conventions in your area of interest
