ENG 4U 2011: Strong Arming the Ending of Hamlet

We have three goals to accomplish today:

We need to examine one of the most common omissions in Hamlet: Fortinbras, the young Prince of Norway. A few things to consider:

  • Fortinbras’ father, the former king of Norway, was also named Fortinbras
  • Fortinbras’ father was killed by Hamlet Sr. in battle. Interestingly, Hamlet was born on this same day.
  • Fortinbras is a man of action. His name literally means “strong arm”.
  • Fortinbras is seeking revenge on the kingdom of Denmark for his father’s death.

Next, we will examine a few more exemplars for your assignments.

Finally, the culminating task for the next unit is a presentation. Thus, I am going to subject you to a presentation I am giving tomorrow about Video Games. Before we begin, we will briefly discuss basic strategies for effective talks.
